Baby Knitting

I've just finished the Baby Tulip Sweater. Its from a kit I bought online at pickupsticks.ca. This is a very easy pattern and the Dream in Colour Smooshy yarn is so nice to work with. I highly recommend it.

Another baby pattern I just finished (like today, in about an hour) is the Meathead had. God, I love that name. The pattern is being offered free for a short period. Its so cute and well written. I have to get a picture of Max wearing this hat.

Look What I Got!!

Yes! Its a spinning wheel. Its not quite mine, but I do have the use of it for an entire year. This is what I've come up with so far. The roving is 'mermaid' from Spunky Eclectic (or at least thats where I think it came from)

I've ordered a book off of amazon called Start Spinning. I'm not sure I'm drafting the fiber properly. I always need a book to go by when I do these sort of ventures.

Does this make my feet look fat?

I just posted this FO on ravelry and noticed how chubby my little tootsies look in this photo. I'm not a small girl by any means, but my feet aren't fat! I guess its just the angle. Thats my story anyway.

Simple sock pattern from collingnette. The yarn is jitterbug - really nice. The colour is fruit coulis. I like 'em.

National Crochet Month

I'm not sure which nation is having this, but over on Ravelry we are playing a little freeform game. We are given a random number generator (ie dice, cards, telephone number) to determine the number of stitches worked, and we are given the stitch. Its the first time doing this type of freeform or scrumbling. I rather enjoy it. Though my 'thingy' isn't a thing of beauty it sure is interesting.

By the way, my camera has broken again. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr! I'm getting angry now. I think I'll demand a replacement this time.

March's Sweater

Is Juliet from Zephyr style. This is a very simple top down cardi thats offered in 2 versions. The first one is a cropped cardi thats knit in garter to the underarms, then the lace pattern starts. The second version is longer, the garter is knit to under the boobs and the lace is continued until about 2 inches below the hips. I didn't think the cropped version would suit me and I didn't really like the longer version...I ended my lace at the hips. I also knit a large size up top and a medium in the lace. Fellow ravelers had complained that this was too flared.

Warm Fuzzies

I just bought the book Warm Fuzzies by Betz White. This is a book of ideas of things to make out of repurposed felted knit sweaters.

I'm loving the layout of this book and the projects in it. My only complaint is that the author assumes that one has some basic knowledge. For example, there isn't any explaination (that I could see) of how to make felt beads. They are used in alot of the projects. There isn't a really good step by step intruction on how to actually felt the sweater; in terms of taking it apart.

But overall this book is worth purchasing for the photos alone. There are some really gorgeous FOs here. I've already finished the pin cushion which is featured on the cover. Next up is a baby jumper.

Why is there no joy in sock knitting?

I ponder this a lot. Other people love it. Other people obsess over sock knitting. Not me. I love the yarn. I love the finished product, but I hate knitting the damned things. I thought this time would be different. I tried entrelac socks. Now, I love entrelac. You only need to look at my long line of 'Danica's' to figure that out. So I thought just this one, I would find the joy. But, sadly no.

I am determined to find a sock pattern that I love. One that I don't dread knitting. I'm thinking a plain stockinette, in a larger weight yarn might do the trick. Old fashioned vamps. Or maybe something with an interesting construction. I might even try magic loop next time. We'll see.

On the bright side though, they are pretty aren't they?
